I read news through the internet. The tendency of news depends on many aspects such as different publishers, their editing policies, political orientations of the stockholders of the publishing company, and certain pressures from the major advertisers. The advantage of hearing news from the internet is that it enables me to go through different attitudes and arguments at once as well as the responses and opinions from the public. However, I tend to judge by myself not being incited by those kinds of public opinions.
For example, when there was a series of candlelight rallies against American beef importation concerning about BSE (bovine spongiform encephalopathy), different publishers covered some violent protest and incidents that accordingly happened during the protest in pretty much different ways. Through those opposite reports, one side guided readers to conclude that the protest should be stopped while the other side supported them. Although the protests were incited by incorrect information, we are always free of being either for or against the protest. The problem lied in the government’s attitude which tried to deal with the situation without well-concerned communication.

Recently, one news made me upset. I read a Korean news. It was about racism.

I found something interesting. Korean news and American news saying was a little different.
Korean news saying that It was not overbooking, it is for giving their seats to four crew members who needed to board. Four people was all Asian. So it is racism. And they refer United airline’s other discrimination act like sexual thing and disability things. Most of Korean news omitted United airline’s written apology.
But, American news saying that it is not racism. The process that choose people who will give up their seat was not revealed. They said “its system for selecting David Dao and the three others is an IT algorithm that takes into account issues like disabilities and connecting flights. This means there’s no real evidence of racial bias.”
I think it could not be said “racism”. According to the dictionary, it says “Racism is discrimination and prejudice towards people based on their race or ethnicity” United airline did not reveal their process to choose four Asian passengers. But this could not be the evidence of racism. I think those racism opinions came from their experience and United airline’s stereotype from last discrimination(United airline refuse the Muslim people because they said coke could be weapon And they refuse women who wear leggings but men wore short pants).

For example, I read several news about ‘THAAD’ through the internet. Although topic is same, but each news is typed by different point of view. In Korea, there are two types of inclination of politics which are conservatism and progressivism. There are three popular presses which are conservative. There are Cho-sun, Jung-ang, and Dong-A. They write the news about THAAD that it is the best way to defend our country against North Korea’s missiles(IRBM, ICBM, Scud, etc) and it is a way to pressure North Korea that we can protect ourselves. The opposite side, Han-kyo-reh and Kyung-Hyang write the news that we don’t need THAAD to protect us and we have to discuss about nuclear missiles, warmongering with a leader of North Korea, Jung-Eun Kim. Also the news said that we have to solve the problem with conversation, not to solve with violation.
In my opinion, both sides are not wrong. It is just a different way to express their thoughts. I think that we need THAAD to hold North Korea in check and strengthen up our national power. United Airlines proposed to give reward to passengers abandon way, but all passengers refused the offer for their own reasons. The airline asked four passengers who were chosen randomly to leave the plane. One of the four passengers, a Vietnamese American doctor, David Dao refused to see the patient the next morning. Eventually, he was dragged out of the plane in a violent manner by security agent. In progress, he was hurt by chair armrest and shed blood. The news in Korea emphasized that the passenger who was pulled out was Asian and that most of the selected passengers were Asian. On the contrary, CNN did not describe the person who was dragged out as Asian and detailed explanation about it. This difference arises ,because in Korea want to emphasize racial discrimination, and the United States does not consider racial discrimination. April 16th this year was the third anniversary of the sinking of the Sewol ferry. Sewol ferry was carrying 476 people on board and sank off on the korea's southwest coast, killing more than 300 people. This disaster has been blamed on illegal redesigns, overloading, and irresponsible crew. At that time, all the media reported this sad, miserable accident and the whole nation mourned.
And three years later at that day, I could see a different article by the media company. Liberal media like Hangeorae(한겨레), SBS and Kyeonghyang(경향), they reported article about Sewol ferry at main pag and their contents was detailed. On the other hand, conservative media like Choseon(조선), Jungang(중앙) and MBC reported about that accident, but not detailed. They reported their articles at the below of their news page, and contents was shorter than liberal media. Especially Jungang company, There was nothing involved articles about Sewol ferry. And they repoted Junpyo Hong –president candidate-’s comment, ‘Sewol ferry accident is enough to mourn. It is boring’.
Looking for these articles, I can find differnece of media company’s tendency. They reported different articles at theit main page and contents was different too. It was interesting that media company can express what they want to notice to the public by their article’s position and contents.

Most of Korean media, which I can get information, take the negative report about that decision. So I wanted to know the opinion which is positive at that decision. I saw a lots of news about racism touble with the Amerian airline, the United Airline. The most hottest issue was that they dragged out the plane and hurt the Vietnam doctor because of overbooking to gave a seat to another passenger. The interesting thing is, United Airline is in trouble again with the same problem - overuse the power. But the cabin crew restrained it so she asked that what is the best way that she can choose, and the crew answered that there in no way, only can send that by baggage, not on the seat. So she said that she can pay as much they want, she cant let her violin as a baggage. So they started to argue with this problem, even the violinist got hurt on her finger.
But in the Airline law, there is a law that if the player want to bring it, then airline have to provide convenience to the passenger what they want to do.

I usually get majority of my news at JTBC newsroom. Because JTBC unearthed a lots of corruption, and criticized corrupt politician. so i think it is reliable news source. The tendency of news depends on many aspects such as different publishers, their editing policies, political orientations of the stockholders of the publishing company, and certain pressures from the major advertisers. The advantage of hearing news from the internet is that it enables me to go through different attitudes and arguments at once as well as the responses and opinions from the public. However, I tend to judge by myself not being incited by those kinds of public opinions.
For example, when there was a series of candlelight rallies against American beef importation concerning about BSE (bovine spongiform encephalopathy), different publishers covered some violent protest and incidents that accordingly happened during the protest in pretty much different ways. Through those opposite reports, one side guided readers to conclude that the protest should be stopped while the other side supported them. Although the protests were incited by incorrect information, we are always free of being either for or against the protest. The problem lied in the government’s attitude which tried to deal with the situation without well-concerned communication.

Recently, one news made me upset. I read a Korean news. It was about racism.

I found something interesting. Korean news and American news saying was a little different.
Korean news saying that It was not overbooking, it is for giving their seats to four crew members who needed to board. Four people was all Asian. So it is racism. And they refer United airline’s other discrimination act like sexual thing and disability things. Most of Korean news omitted United airline’s written apology.
But, American news saying that it is not racism. The process that choose people who will give up their seat was not revealed. They said “its system for selecting David Dao and the three others is an IT algorithm that takes into account issues like disabilities and connecting flights. This means there’s no real evidence of racial bias.”
I think it could not be said “racism”. According to the dictionary, it says “Racism is discrimination and prejudice towards people based on their race or ethnicity” United airline did not reveal their process to choose four Asian passengers. But this could not be the evidence of racism. I think those racism opinions came from their experience and United airline’s stereotype from last discrimination(United airline refuse the Muslim people because they said coke could be weapon And they refuse women who wear leggings but men wore short pants).
Quite surprising for Korean and American news were different on this issue.. I thought American news would say it is racism cause they are more sensitive on this kind of matter. I'm agree with you for it is hard to say this issue as racism. Of course computer program is not a racist, so selecting process was fair (assuming that United airline didn't lie). United airline should be criticized in this issue by too much action on passenger, not a racism.

In may 17th, 2016, a university student A was killed in the unisex public toilet near the gangnam station. Murderer Kim has waited in the toilet over 1 hour to kill someone, but he ignored 6 man who stopped by. After then, he killed a woman who was alone. Today I want to talk about this crime in other points.
Many broadcasters and newspaper reported this incident, but there were difference in subtle. In that days, main news said Kim suffered from schizophrenia in 2009 and when he commit murder, he has already suffered a schizophrenia. However, if this accident was just a murder accident, it couldn't be a hot issue.
In May 19th, 2016, MBN news reported that this is not a misogyny(who hate women) crime. They said it could be woman persecutory delusion because Kim entered the mental hospital about 4 times since 2009. Professor who major in criminal psychology said this murder can be happened to child or old because they are the weak and this crime is close to "Don't ask why I killed."

For example, I read several news about ‘THAAD’ through the internet. Although topic is same, but each news is typed by different point of view. In Korea, there are two types of inclination of politics which are conservatism and progressivism. There are three popular presses which are conservative. There are Cho-sun, Jung-ang, and Dong-A. They write the news about THAAD that it is the best way to defend our country against North Korea’s missiles(IRBM, ICBM, Scud, etc) and it is a way to pressure North Korea that we can protect ourselves. The opposite side, Han-kyo-reh and Kyung-Hyang write the news that we don’t need THAAD to protect us and we have to discuss about nuclear missiles, warmongering with a leader of North Korea, Jung-Eun Kim. Also the news said that we have to solve the problem with conversation, not to solve with violation.
In my opinion, both sides are not wrong. It is just a different way to express their thoughts. I think that we need THAAD to hold North Korea in check and strengthen up our national power. I know that this way is so violent and come near to breaking out the war. But North Korea carries out nuclear tests, and launches missiles continuously. United Airlines proposed to give reward to passengers abandon way, but all passengers refused the offer for their own reasons. The airline asked four passengers who were chosen randomly to leave the plane. One of the four passengers, a Vietnamese American doctor, David Dao refused to see the patient the next morning. Eventually, he was dragged out of the plane in a violent manner by security agent. In progress, he was hurt by chair armrest and shed blood.
The news in Korea emphasized that the passenger who was pulled out was Asian and that most of the selected passengers were Asian. On the contrary, CNN did not describe the person who was dragged out as Asian and detailed explanation about it. This difference arises ,because in Korea want to emphasize racial discrimination, and the United States does not consider racial discrimination. Or the US broadcaster might have tried to hide evidence of racism.
Racism is to divide people into different races, and to disadvantage certain races. I think that this incident was act of racism. The airline caused not only this incident but also many other problems, and it was not that serious. If the passenger who was pulled put was white, he would not have been overpowered. I think there was some fake in that the majority of people who were selected were Oriental.

Sewol ferry was carrying 476 people on board and sank off on the korea's southwest coast, killing more than 300 people. This disaster has been blamed on illegal redesigns, overloading, and irresponsible crew. At that time, all the media reported this sad, miserable accident and the whole nation mourned.
And three years later at that day, I could see a different article by the media company. Liberal media like Hangeorae(한겨레), SBS and Kyeonghyang(경향), they reported article about Sewol ferry at main pag and their contents was detailed.
On the other hand, conservative media like Choseon(조선), Jungang(중앙) and MBC reported about that accident, but not detailed. They reported their articles at the below of their news page, and contents was shorter than liberal media. Especially Jungang company, There was nothing involved articles about Sewol ferry. And they repoted Junpyo Hong –president candidate-’s comment, ‘Sewol ferry accident is enough to mourn. It is boring’.
Looking for these articles, I can find differnece of media company’s tendency. They reported different articles at theit main page and contents was different too. It was interesting that media company can express what they want to notice to the public by their article’s position and contents.

In my thought, watching this two News channel, the opinion of pros is lame. Legally, Obama’s Paris Agreement doesn’t need to pass the Congress. ReplyDeleteI saw a lots of news about racism touble with the Amerian airline, the United Airline. The most hottest issue was that they dragged out the plane and hurt the Vietnam doctor because of overbooking to gave a seat to another passenger. It was a hot topic both in Asia and America because their news were kind different.
The interesting thing is, United Airline is in trouble again with the same problem - overuse the power. According to the news (http://www.yonhapnews.co.kr/bulletin/2017/06/07/0200000000AKR20170607160900009.HTML?input=1195m), a famous Violinist Yennifer Correia had a concert in Missouri, so tried to take the plane with her violin from Washington, but her Violin was made in 17th Century, i cost more expensive than any supre car.
So she didn't send that to baggage, just brought to the seat. But the cabin crew restrained it so she asked that what is the best way that she can choose, and the crew answered that there in no way, only can send that by baggage, not on the seat. So she said that she can pay as much they want, she cant let her violin as a baggage. So they started to argue with this problem, even the violinist got hurt on her finger.
But in the Airline law, there is a law that if the player want to bring it, then airline have to provide convenience to the passenger what they want to do.
After then, airline spokeperson sent an e-mial to the writter who post it, and said that they will keep in touch with her and they will talk well.
I think it is a situation that strongly overused their power to their passenger, it's not a first time, so they have to continueously take care of their employee.
I plan to talk about Dokdo.

For example, in the news or newspapers of sbs, jtbc, Joongang Ilbo, etc., Dokdo and Dokdo were mentioned as Korean territories in Japanese ancient maps and Japanese highlands, and that the Japanese government labeled Dokdo and Ulleungdo as Korean territories at the end of the 17th century I was there. I think the Korean people want to know the clear evidence that Dokdo is Korean territory and to spread the right information to foreigners.

ReplyDeleteI read the news related to the incident about an Asian being dragged out of the air plane. There are a sharp difference of emphasis point between Korean and American news.
Korean News had the main purpose of criticizing United Airlines as a victim, representing the position of Asians. In the beginning they summarized overall incident and showed the reaction of chiness sns. On the other hand, the United Airlines, which is the perpetrator of the incident, did an initial silent response and made an official apology for the stock price decline, but criticized it as a late response. In addition, the sentence was shorter than the analysis of the impact of the victim's position on China. In the case of american press, CNN try to report in a balanced manner both victims and perpetrator. However, the US media reported that the CEO of United Airlines did not comment on the change in attitude and only made a final public apology.
Many Chinese criticized this case for racist behavior and campaigned for United Airlines to boycott it.Racism is the division of people into different races and disadvantages to certain races. If the victim of racial discrimination in American society is black or Asian, it would not have been disadvantageous to white passengers if the incident was a racial act of United Airlines. But United airline has a controversy about taking a white passenger's stroller. So, it's not the case of racism. I think it is the case of United's customer response.

Blue house released history about minister candidate like a drink driving, deceiving an address.
And Blue house says this fault is minor for their ability.
But someone says the president Moon use a double standard.
Because in fast the president Moon says to minister candidate who has fault "you're not qualified as a candidate."

If you read this articles, Chosun and Joongang has critical view, but JTBC has favorable view.
In general, I prefer JTBC's articles. Because 손석희, chief of JTBC, has a very good reputation as a journalist.
But in this article, I don't agree about JTBC's. Because I think that the politician must be honest.
And as described above, the president doesn't use a double standard.
But If the candidates give good answers at the hearing, I will support them.
I think your opinion is interesting. The appointment of a minister is very hot topic in our country now, so I also interested in this issue. As you said in your post, Public have to correct the point of fact, it is duty of citizen.
