First Writing Assignment

In discussing humane or inhumane treatments of animals, it’s important to know the laws regarding animals’ rights and protection of your country.  What is considered humane or inhumane could be determined by the cultural context of each nation. For example, what kinds of animal cruelty are Koreans appalled about? What has been done about it?  What is considered animal cruelty or abuse?

The first writing assignment is to write a research paper on the laws and rights of animals.  What kinds of laws are there to protect animals? Are there any education required for adoption of cats and dogs? The animals that are in the shelters because someone threw their dogs away on the streets, how long can they stay at the shelter before they’re killed?

In addition, what are your thoughts on the laws related to animals? Are they current or outdated? What can be done about the lack of laws?

Your paper should be at least a page, single spaced or two pages for double spaced.  Anything shorter than that, it would be hard for you to express your complete thoughts and feelings onto paper. Your font should be no larger than 12 points.  For academic writing, Times Roman is a good font to use.

On the due date, please bring two hard copies printed to the class so that we can peer critique in class.
