EPals—Global Collaboration Project
Thank you for participating in a pilot program with Epals
this semester. I know some of you had
great success with your participants abroad while others have not but it’s
alright. Your group representing the
country will do group presentation on the 15th week. I would imagine it would only take one class
time rather than a whole week as scheduled.
For your presentation, please reflect and share with the
class what you have learned about the culture of your student. What especially were
striking to you? Whether you have linked
with someone or not, I would like your presentations to include the answers to the following questions:
·
Culture and knowledge you’ve learned
·
Did you experience any culture shock? If so,
what were they?
·
How did you feel about the experience of sharing
cultures?
·
What did you learn from this EPal experience?
·
What did you learn from the writing styles of
the e-mails? Was it too casual or too formal? What did you like or dislike
about the writing style of your student?
·
What kinds of things could you infer from their
writings that weren’t directly written in words? For example, could you sense their
self-esteem or their outlook on life from their e-mails? What else could you
tell?
·
Where there anything that was predictable or
shocking to you?
Please have your presentation organized and ready so that
you’re not fumbling in front of the class on the day of presentation. Your group can either have a PowerPoint
presentation ready, video, or some other visual aid to help you with your
presentation. Remember to make eye
contact when speaking to the group! Also, do not read from a piece of paper
because that’ll surely put the audience to sleep!
Your EPals homework grade will look to see how much effort
you have put into the project, how you problem solved, and other methods to
resolve the problems some of you had.
For those of you who have made the contact, I will look to see how you
interacted to get the information that you did.
Lastly, remember to add proof or evidence of contacts made, either printed
or in other visual forms. Remember, this
is worth 15% of your total grade so please plan ahead for your presentation.
