This questions was on 수능 this year and it's been reported that only 19% of students guessed this right. What do you think? Please post your answer (with reason) with your name for extra credit.
I think the answer is 5. Because, there are these sentences in the question: 'all scientific concepts are mathematized when scientists communicate with one another', 'When science speaks to others, it is no longer science'. In other words, scientists use mathematical exactness when they communicate each other. But, non-scientists couldn’t understand that communications. So, scientists explain science with rhetorical vagueness and metaphor to non-scientists. Therefore I think number5 is appropriate in the blank.
I think the right answer is 5. I guessed the key point of this paragraph reading first 2 sentaces. When we look at the science, we see lots of mathematic symbols usded in science. (For scientific theory or formula.. etc) So most of non scientist people think it's hard to understnad even they can be attracted to mathematics. So that's what first 2 sentacnces say. That is, "Mathematics can't overcome resistance to science." And the rest of the paragraph support for this idea. In conclusion, scientists reverse his code of intellectual conduct that defines him as a scientist toward mathematical terms in favor of people's attraction. That's what this paragraph says. So the answer is 5. -HyeJin Yoon (kate) 201131201
